12 Things to Pack When Moving to London
Updated: Aug 4, 2022
Electronics
Phones, laptops, technology, Apple products: These are generally more expensive in the UK: For example a MacBook Air 256GB is ~A$350 more expensive here. In addition, the 2nd hand market for Apple products is much less competitive. Non-Apple products fare slightly better: The Samsung Galaxy S21 5G is only $21 more expensive and the Dyson Airdrop is only $50 more but stock can be an issue. For example, the Airwrap hasn’t been available for purchase in months. So prioritise tech items, especially Apple items when allocating luggage space
Your local country to UK Adaptor: Get a few of these to allow you to use your local tech in various rooms
A powerboard for your local country: Used with your adaptor, these can be really helpful while you make the transition from local to UK technology
Noise cancelling headphones
Power bank
Clothing
Down jacket (if arriving in winter): If you’re coming from the Southern Hemisphere, take advantage of end of season sales
Other clothes: Don’t worry too much about general clothing, if you need anything it’s very accessible here and similarly priced (or cheaper)
Winter boots: Unless you’re coming from somewhere with a similarly cold climate, buy these in the UK. For example, Australian boots wouldn’t cut it. At the moment Doc Martins are all the rage
Heels: Walking is much more popular in the UK than in the US and Australia meaning heels are much less popular. One sensible pair is enough
Other
Medications
Vitamins to start you off and then some
Sentimental items
