The Best South Asian Food Spots in the UK (with a map!)
Updated: Aug 4, 2022
When we moved to London, one thing we definitely didn't expect was the variety and quality of South Asian food available. We didn't realise that by moving further away from South Asia, our intake of South Asian food would escalate dramatically. We aren't complaining. To share the joy, here's a running list of our favourite South Asian food around London.
By the way, if you're looking for Sunday roasts in London check out my post
London
The Punjab Restaurant (https://www.punjab.co.uk)
What to order: All the North Indian favourites including butter chicken, Amritsar chole, naan
Price range: £10-20 per person
Wanderer rating: 4/5 for authentic punjabi food but at a higher price
Vibe: More upmarket, a beautiful place for a nice date with table clothes. Running sine 1946, it claims to be the oldest North Indian restaurant in the UK (and it very well may be!). The walls are covered in bills, menus and accounts throughout its history which I absolutely loved
Dishoom (https://www.dishoom.com)
Wembley
Saravana Bhavan: https://saravanabhavan.com/
Dosa express: http://dosaexpresswembley.co.uk/
Cross restaurant: https://www.just-eat.co.uk/restaurants-crossrestaurant-wembley/menu
Taste of Lahore: https://tasteoflahorewembley.uk/

Masalchi by Atul Kochar https://masalchi.co.uk
Southall
Rita's curry house: http://ritascurryhouse.com/our-menu/
Rita's Chaat corner: https://www.just-eat.co.uk/restaurants-ritaschillichaatcornersouthall-ub1/menu
Outside London
Dishoom, Edinburgh: https://www.dishoom.com/edinburgh/
What to order: My top recommendations are the Ruby Chicken and House Chaat
Price range: £20 - 25 per person
Wanderer rating: 4/5 for a modern take on Bombay food, friendly to western palettes
Vibe: Yes, we went to an Indian restaurant in Edinburgh but in our defence it was one of the top rated restaurants in the city (and for good reason). The Ruby chicken is Dishoom's take on butter chicken and executed perfectly - authentic and not sweet (which you sometimes find in westernised butter chickens). The house chaat was also unique and very tasty (and a tactical order if you worry you'll find other mains too spicy)
